Price
What is the price for shipping my personal items?
We offer flat rates for each country of origin and destination.
What does the price include?
Our price per container includes: a brand new container delivered at your front door, pick-up of your packed container at the origin location, shipping to a new destination, and 24/7 online tracking.
Does the price include packing materials?
No. You will need to provide your own materials for packing.
Is the price the same if I ship to different places within a same country?
We offer flat rates per country of origin and destination. Therefore, the price is the same if you ship to different states or cities within a country. Exemptions apply when shipping from/to Alaska, Hawaii or Puerto Rico.
Are there any additional fees I should know about?
When shipping personal items internationally, each country has its own import regulations, so it's crucial to research the specific rules of the destination country.
Packing
Do you offer different sizes of containers?
Yes, we offer different sizes of containers to accommodate various moving needs.
How much can I pack inside each container?
Each container holds up to 100 pounds, the equivalent of 2 large suitcases.
Can I ship my own boxes with BorderBox?
BorderBox is designed for use with our proprietary containers. Shipping your own boxes is not supported.
Can I ship furniture with BorderBox?
Our containers are designed for smaller items and may not accommodate large furniture pieces.
Can I pack fragile items?
Yes. Our containers are built to protect your items from rough handling, but careful packing is very important.
How can I assemble my container?
Check our Packing Tips for instructions on how to assemble and disassemble your container.
Are the containers waterproof?
No, but using plastic stretch wrap or even kitchen plastic wrap can make the containers water resistant.
Are there any items I cannot ship?
The carrier does not transport any goods prohibited by law or regulation of any federal, state or local government in the origin or destination countries. Check our Packing Tips for the full list of prohibited items.
Shipping
How long does it take to ship my personal items with BorderBox?
Here are some numbers to consider when you're shipping your items with BorderBox:
- From the moment you place your order, you'll receive your container(s) within 3 to 6 business days.
- You can take as long as you need to pack your items.
- To schedule a pickup allow a minimum of 2 business days notice.
- The shipping carrier will pick up your packed containers and deliver them to your new home within 10 business days.
NOTE: Packing prohibited and/or restricted items, national emergencies, weather events, acts of nature, acts of war, labor strikes, civil unrest can impact shipping times.
How are my items transported to the destination?
We ship and deliver your packed containers via our carrier partners, FedEx, DHL, and others.
In some cases, shipments are sent via ground transport (for example, within the continental 48 US states) while others are sent via air freight (US to Europe, Middle East, Asia).
Are my items delivered at my door?
Some managed apartment complexes may require the driver to deliver to a mailroom or other established delivery location inside your managed residential complex. Difficult access that includes multiple walk up stories, will often result in delivery to the accessible ground location where the driver can access the building. If your managed residence requires a security code for access, this must be provided. In some rare cases, other add on arrangements might be necessary at additional costs.

Can I track my items during shipping?
Yes, all carrier partners provide online 24/7 tracking of each container. You will receive a tracking number with your Shipping Label.
What if I don't know my exact moving date?
All you need to know at the moment of placing an order is the number of containers you want, the country of origin and destination, and the address where you want to receive your containers to start packing. From the date you place your order, you have 60 days to ship your packed containers.
Can I select a different destination for each container I purchase?
Yes. Each container is priced, fulfilled and shipped individually. Therefore, you can select a different destination and shipping date for each container. Once you've purchased and received your containers, and you have finished packing, proceed to request a Shipping Label for each container. In that form, you'll specify the address of origin and destination of each container you're shipping.
Can I select a different pickup location for each container?
Yes. You can select a different pickup location for each container you ship when you request a Shipping Label. The shipping label includes:
- Origin Address- where your container will be picked up.
- Destination Address: where your container will be delivered.
- Pickup date: the day the shipping carrier will come to your selected origin address and take your container for delivery.
Can I select a different pickup date for each container?
Yes. You can select a different pickup location for each container you ship when you request a Shipping Label.
How do I ship my packed containers?
Once you have packed your personal items, request a Shipping Label and select when you want your packed containers to be picked up.
What paperwork is required to ship with BorderBox?
For each container, BorderBox will provide a Shipping Label. You are required to provide the following information:
- Order number
- Origin address
- Destination address
- Primary contact (will be contacted during the whole shipping process)
- Alternate contact (will be contacted if the Primary contact isn't available)
- Contact at origin (will be contacted when the containers are picked up by a driver)
- Contact at destination (will be contacted when the containers are delivered)
- Packing Inventory
- Government ID (driver license) or Passport (for international shipments only)
- List of items packed in each container
- Pictures of items packed in each container
- Estimated value of items in each container
What paperwork is required for shipping internationally?
Each country provides specific guidelines regarding the paperwork needed for personal item shipments. Check our Country Guides for more information.
What happens to the container after my move?
After you have finished moving and unpacking, the containers are yours to keep and reuse. Check our Packing Tips for guidance on how to disassemble and store your container for your next move.
Protection
Are my self-packed goods insured in case of any damages that may occur during shipping?
Your BorderBox includes protection in case of total damage or loss of the shipment, of up to $1,000 value. You can increase the value protection here.
What happens if my container gets lost during shipping?
To file a claim through BorderBox a tracking number is required, and the carrier must confirm that through their handling the container has been destroyed or lost.
What happens if there are any damages to my personal items during shipping?
To file a claim through BorderBox, it is required to provide a tracking number and photographic evidence of the damage to the container and the packed items.
